Fishing Planet Night Fishing in California

As an avid angler, I've had the pleasure of exploring the vast waters of California at night. With my trusty 440lb keepernet, I can fill it up with a variety of fish species and have plenty of time to enjoy the experience. Here's my go-to strategy for catching a range of fish during my nocturnal fishing excursions.

First, I start by setting my timer to 30 minutes forward and begin fishing at position Dĭ using my Catfish Master III rod and reel combo. This setup allows me to catch catfish and carp with ease. Once I've caught a few, I switch to the Salmon Master III and Line Breaker III rods to target sturgeon. The X-Series tackle's high-performance fibers make it nearly invisible to fish, giving me an edge in the water.

After catching a few sturgeon at position Dĭ, I move on to AĪ and catch even more using the same SS bait. From there, I head to Position Bī to snag another 1-2 sturgeon before moving on to other hotspots. The key to my success lies in using the right tackle and bait combination.

My go-to bait is a mix of spawn sacks (SS) and duck mussel meat (DMM), which seems to attract a variety of fish species. I also make sure to have a bottom rod/reel combo with fairly heavy line (around 30lbs) and a 4/0 hook ready for when I need it.

To set up for the night, I drop my anchor at around 40 feet from where I want to fish, raise it to let the fish drag me to them, and then motor the boat back to my desired fishing spot. Once in position, I cast out my line and wait for the bite.

Fishing at night can be a unique experience, but with the right gear and strategy, it's just as rewarding as daytime fishing. Just remember to get your license and prepare for a 10-15 game day adventure. Happy fishing!
